victoria secret love it or hate it

Victoria secret's biggest event every year is there fashion show, this year it has circulated a lot of negative press. The fashion show is the biggest in the Victoria Secrets calendar and is approximating to cost around 12 million dollars to produce.

The show is very similar very year, putting the same 'type' of models down the runway. The women themselves all look very similar, the only model who I can think of that could be seen as lightly against there norm this year would be supermodel Winnie Harlow. Winnie is a well known model and has been used again and again for advertising and modelling jobs. She has vertigo which creates a mixture of skin colours all over her body. Even though Winnie has this condition she still has the exact same body type like the other angels.

The show did include many musical guests: Bebe Rexha, the Chainsmokers, Halsey, Kelsea Ballerini, Rita Ora, Shawn Mendes, and the Struts. But on Sunday, before the show aired, Halsey issued a statement about the show on her Instagram, distancing herself from the company.

“I have adored the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show since I was young,” Halsey wrote. “However, after I filmed the performance, some comments were made regarding the show that I simply cannot ignore. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I have no tolerance for a lack of inclusivity.” I think if Victoria Secret aren't careful they are going to push away a lot of influencers that help promote and create a buzz around the show.

With plus size models being used alot more for advertising and marketing , the fact that in 2018 this is still the same look which is being created is starting to become a little boring. In the last two years the scale of audience watching the show on the tv has dropped dramatically and I do personally think its cause people are starting to be bored by the definition of 'perfect' that Victoria secret portrays.

With popular brands launches like Fenty, creating a full size range, tonal hues designed to highlight all skintones, and diverse models cast from around the world. I don't know if there is still a growing market in Victoria's Secret image. Many articles suggest the Victoria secret models starve themselves 12 hours before the show and also have a huge workout just before to really insinuate there skinny body's. Which isn't the image anyone wants to promote, particularly as Victoria secrets target age range is looking at younger women.

Where as Fenty's image is appealing to a huge market, which is definitely growing due to the negative press around Victoria secret currently. Years ago I think it worked but due to the changing of society I don't think there is going to be a place for Victoria secret unless they change there model image.

Victoria Secret need to change something if they are going to still hold there spot in the fashion industry, whether its too late now for them to introduce a range of more diverse models I don't know , but they will certainly not be able to carry on at this rate in my option. The negative press is only going to increase every year.
