How does love-island brainwash the nation?

Updated: May 31, 2019

It's that time of the bloody year again, Love island.

The new cast of this year's love-island has been speculated for a while now, with talks of a more diverse range of people. After the backlash the show has been getting for lack of support after the show as now two old cast members took there own lives in the past year. This years show was going to start addressing some of these issues starting by casting a more diverse range of people. This was some of the line up below, to honest I'm confused where the diversity. They look exactly the same compared to future years. There isn't a diverse range of shapes and sizes, particularly when looking at the men.

The 2018 cast photo is above.

How is everyones idea of perfection meant to change if they are still throwing such a small minority of people ( people may I just say that have spent months prepping with spray tans, personal trainers and diets and defiantly some cosmetic surgery) in a show and parading them around half naked for two months. Thats going to make everyone feel better, isn't it.

I can't sit here and say I haven't watched the show before ( because I defiantly have). But with that in mind I can start to analyse why I think its such a success.

1. People love to people watch - ONE HOUR a day everyday for 2 MONTHS. People love to watch other people and start to pick aspects they like and don't like from them. It's natural human behaviour.

2. I think people aspire to look like the cast, there is defiantly an aspect of hope and want involved somewhere. ( defiantly not for everyone and also not a GOOD thing at all)

3.The power of authority over there fates in the villa - Every week or so a islander will get voted off by the public.

4. The sexual aspect - The taboo topic that is still not very openly discussed for most people. The show feels like you're involved in a girly (or lads) chat about sexual topics - that people might not be involved with in there actual lives.

5. The love of watching people fail ( particularly if you're envious). There are a range of silly challenges over the 8 weeks and most of them include winners and losers. The losers have forfeits linked with which again has a entertainment value.

6. Number six and I think most importantly humans have a need and want to reproduce, watching other relationships is really interesting. It helps gain more understanding and opinions on how to be or what you want in a relationship.

There are so many different aspects this year that I am hoping will change, people don't see the cast eat regularly ( no more than three times last show). Unhealthy traits like not eating and even the cast getting dressed up and ready for the evening. The cast get hair and makeup professinal help every night and can have there nails done ect. How are children or young adults meant to grow up with an idea of a reality that A doesn't really exist and B takes a team of people to do it?

Hopefully there is a massive change with the filming this year, I don't know if love island will still be as popular if they don't adapt to society.
